Usinas Siderúrgicas de Minas Gerais S.A. (Usiminas) manufactures and markets flat steel products in Brazil and internationally. The company produces slabs, hot-rolled coils and sheets, cold-rolled coils and sheets, hot-dip galvanized steel, electrogalvanized steel, thick plates, hot strips, and tin mill products; extracts and processes iron ore including pellet feed, sinter feed, and granulated iron ore; provides mining and logistics services such as storage, handling, road and rail cargo transportation, and operation of highway and railway terminals; offers steel transformation solutions including hot-dip galvanizing, texturing and chrome plating of cylinders, rectification of rolling mill rolls, and distribution center operations; and manufactures and installs capital equipment for various industries along with technology transfer and project management services for civil construction and capital goods. Usiminas operates primarily through its Mining and Logistics, Steelmaking, Steel Transformation, and Capital Assets segments, serving automotive, construction, distribution, energy, white goods, oil and gas, machinery, equipment, railway, naval, and agricultural markets mainly in Brazil with exports to international destinations. Founded in 1956 and headquartered in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, the company maintains major production facilities at its Ipatinga plant in Minas Gerais and Cubatão plant in São Paulo. In November 2025, Ternium Investments agreed to acquire the remaining shares of Usiminas from Nippon Steel Corporation and Mitsubishi Corporation for approximately $315 million, increasing Ternium's controlling stake from 51.5% to 83.1% pending antitrust approval; earlier in July 2025, the Batista family acquired a 5.08% stake from Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional; and Usiminas continues its 2023-2026 investment plan totaling around $712 million focused on refurbishing blast furnace No. 3, steel conversion areas, and coke plants at Ipatinga to enhance operational efficiency and environmental performance.
