(NYSE: VHI) operates as a holding company with principal activities in chemicals, component products, and real estate management and development across Europe, North America, the Asia Pacific, and other international markets. The company's Chemicals segment, through its majority-owned subsidiary Kronos Worldwide, Inc., produces and markets titanium dioxide (TiO2) pigments under the KRONOS brand for use in paints, coatings, plastics, paper, fibers, and decorative laminates; the Component Products segment, via CompX International Inc., manufactures mechanical and electronic cabinet locks, locking mechanisms, and security products for applications including mailboxes, file cabinets, medical cabinetry, vending machines, and transportation; it also supplies stainless steel exhaust components, gauges, throttle controls, wake enhancement systems, trim tabs, and related marine hardware primarily for performance and ski/wakeboard boats; the Real Estate Management and Development segment provides utility services to industrial customers, manages real properties, and develops land for commercial, industrial, and residential uses while holding marketable securities and other investments. Founded in 1932 and headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Valhi functions as a subsidiary of Dixie Rice Agricultural L.L.C. and remains under the control of Contran Corporation entities. In July 2024, the Chemicals segment acquired the remaining 50% joint venture interest in Louisiana Pigment Company, L.P. (LPC) from Venator Investments, Ltd., resulting in full ownership, a $64.5 million non-cash gain, enhanced TiO2 production capacity, and improved utilization rates to 92-93% in 2024.
