The company operates through three main segments: senior housing operating portfolio (SHOP), which includes over 850 communities offering independent living, assisted living, memory care, and other supported services operated by third-party managers; outpatient medical and research portfolio (OM&R), encompassing medical office buildings, research centers, life science facilities, and innovation centers leased to healthcare providers, universities, and research institutions; and triple-net leased properties (NNN), featuring skilled nursing facilities, long-term acute care hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, and other healthcare properties leased to operators on a net basis. With approximately 1,400 properties valued at around $46 billion in enterprise value, Ventas serves the longevity economy by providing environments that support aging populations, medical innovation, and healthcare delivery to residents, tenants, and institutional clients. Founded as a nursing home operator and reorganized as a REIT in 1998, the company is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. In recent developments, Ventas has aggressively expanded its portfolio through $2.2 billion in senior housing acquisitions year-to-date in 2025, focusing on high-demand markets, and increased its overall 2025 acquisition pipeline to $2 billion amid strong sector demand. The company amended its master lease agreement with Brookdale Senior Living in late 2024, enhancing cash flows for both parties while maintaining operations across a 65-community portfolio, and completed a previously announced acquisition of 11 communities.
