Business
Vintage Wine Estates, Inc. Vintage Wine Estates, Inc. operates as a vintner and producer of luxury wines, lifestyle wines, and craft ciders in the United States, with operations spanning premier wine-growing regions including California's Central Coast, Napa Valley, Sonoma County, Oregon, and Washington. Founded in 2000 and headquartered in Incline Village, Nevada, with key facilities in Santa Rosa, California, the company offers a portfolio of approximately 40 brands, including key focus labels such as Bar Dog, B.R. Cohn, Cameron Hughes, Cherry Pie, Firesteed, and Kunde; it also produces hard ciders under the ACE Cider brand featuring fruit-forward varieties with no artificial ingredients, lower calories, and reduced sugar. Products encompass super-premium to luxury table wines priced from $10 to $150 per bottle, private label wines, custom winemaking services including fermentation, barrel aging, bottling, and storage, as well as ready-to-drink ciders distributed through beer channels; sales occur via three segments—Direct-to-Consumer through 11 tasting rooms, 13 wine clubs, and e-commerce serving over 44,000 members and 690,000 email subscribers; Business-to-Business for contract production and private labels; and Wholesale to distributors, retailers like Costco and Albertsons, and on-premise venues across all 50 states and 46 countries. The company maintains a large asset base of 2,556 owned and leased acres, 12 wineries with capacity to produce over 13.5 million cases annually, and high-speed bottling facilities supporting third-party services. In recent major changes, Vintage Wine Estates filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2024, leading to the sale of most wineries and brands including Swanson Vineyards, Sonoma Coast Vineyards, Cosentino, Cherry Pie, and Bar Dog to Foley Family Wines for $15 million; Clos Pegase, Girard, B.R. Cohn, Kunde, and Viansa to A. Jayson Adair's Adair Winery Inc. for $85 million with plans for $25 million in facility upgrades; Laetitia Vineyard & Winery, Owen Roe, and others to Ejnar Knudsen for $9.3 million; Layer Cake, Cartlidge & Browne, and Tamarack Cellars to Total Beverage Solution; and additional brands to Vino.com and Bartow Ethanol, as part of a Five-Point Plan for margin expansion, cost reduction, cash management, asset monetization, and debt reduction amid challenges like inflation and supply constraints.
