Business
Verizon Communications Inc. is a leading global provider of communication, technology, information, and entertainment solutions, serving a broad spectrum of consumers, businesses, and government entities. Its Consumer segment delivers a wide array of offerings, including flexible postpaid and prepaid wireless service plans, advanced mobile devices like smartphones and connected wearables, and comprehensive fixed connectivity options such as Fios fiber-optic internet, television, and voice services. This segment also extends network access to mobile virtual network operators. As of mid-2025, the company recorded approximately 146.1 million total wireless subscribers. In the fourth quarter of 2024, it added 568,000 postpaid phone net additions and 408,000 broadband net additions, bringing total broadband connections to over 12.3 million. The Business segment provides robust network connectivity products, encompassing private networking, cloud connectivity, virtual and software-defined networking, and high-speed internet access. It further offers advanced IP-based voice and video solutions, integrated unified communications and collaboration platforms, and specialized customer contact center tools. This segment additionally delivers a full suite of management and data security services, domestic and global voice and data solutions, including messaging, conferencing, and dedicated data access networks, alongside customer premises equipment, installation, maintenance, and a growing portfolio of Internet of Things (IoT) products and services. Headquartered in New York City, New York, the company, originally known as Bell Atlantic Corporation, adopted its current name, Verizon Communications Inc., in June 2000 following its merger with GTE. Verizon is actively expanding its 5G Ultra-Wideband network, aiming for 80-90 percent coverage by the end of 2025, and aggressively growing its fixed wireless access (FWA) footprint, with a target of 8-9 million FWA subscribers by 2028. The company is undergoing a significant operational transformation under new leadership, which includes plans for workforce reductions and a strategic pivot towards increased efficiency and AI-driven automation, alongside the pending acquisition of Frontier Communications to further expand its fiber network reach.
