Business
Windtree Therapeutics, Inc. (WINT) is a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on developing therapies for acute cardiovascular disorders, respiratory diseases, and oncology indications. Founded in 1992 and headquartered in Warrington, Pennsylvania, the company offers a pipeline of product candidates including istaroxime, a first-in-class dual-mechanism therapy in Phase 2b trials for acute decompensated heart failure and early cardiogenic shock via SERCA2a activation and Na+/K+ ATPase inhibition; AEROSURF, an aerosolized KL4-surfactant in Phase 2b for respiratory distress syndrome in premature infants; Surfaxin, a KL4-surfactant for respiratory conditions; rostafuroxin in Phase 2b for genetically associated hypertension; and preclinical oral and intravenous SERCA2a activators for chronic and acute heart failure. It operates primarily in the United States with global licensing partnerships such as those with Lee’s Pharmaceutical Ltd., Philip Morris USA Inc., and Johnson & Johnson for surfactant technologies and aerosol delivery systems developed with Battelle Memorial Institute. In 2025, Windtree undergoes a major strategic transformation, with stockholders approving ten proposals in August including the establishment of a Windtree Environmental Services division through a transformational acquisition targeting the $85 billion U.S. market for revenue generation and profitability; an increase in authorized shares from 125 million to 1 billion to support growth and deals; abandonment of a prior cryptocurrency treasury strategy; and plans to partner cardiovascular and oncology assets to eliminate approximately $8.8 million in 2024 R&D expenses.
