Business
Warner Music Group Corp. (WMG) operates as a global music entertainment company engaged in discovering, developing, signing, promoting, and marketing recorded music, music publishing, and artist services. The company offers recorded music through leading labels including Atlantic Records, Elektra Records, Warner Records, Parlophone Records, Reprise Records, Rhino Records, Asylum Records, Big Beat Records, Fueled by Ramen, Nonesuch Records, Roadrunner Records, Sire Records, Spinnin' Records, Warner Classics, Warner Music Nashville, 10K Projects, and 300 Entertainment; music publishing via Warner Chappell Music, which administers over one million copyrights across genres; and artist services through Alternative Distribution Alliance (ADA), WMX, and Warner Music Entertainment for merchandising, touring support, film and television storytelling, and expanded rights deals encompassing streaming, physical sales, licensing, and digital distribution. WMG conducts operations in more than 50 countries, targeting consumers, songwriters, independent labels, retailers, and wholesale distributors worldwide, with principal segments in recorded music (approximately 83% of revenue), music publishing (around 17%), and artist services. Founded in 1958 as Warner Bros. Records and headquartered at 1633 Broadway in New York City, the company maintains significant facilities in Los Angeles and employs over 4,500 people globally. In recent developments, Warner Music Group launched a $1.2 billion joint venture with Bain Capital in July 2025 to acquire iconic music catalogs in recorded music and publishing, leveraging equal equity contributions for sourcing, marketing, distribution, and administration to expand artist legacies amid streaming growth and emerging technologies. The company forged a groundbreaking partnership with AI music leader Suno in November 2025, settling prior litigation to co-develop next-generation licensed AI music tools that compensate and protect artists and songwriters, introduce opt-in features for name, image, likeness, voice, and compositions, and unlock new revenue streams, while Suno acquired WMG's Songkick concert-discovery platform to enhance artist-fan connections. These initiatives follow accelerating streaming subscription growth, cost reductions boosting margins, and ongoing AI collaborations including resolutions with Udio and negotiations with startups like ElevenLabs, Stability AI, and Klang Vision, alongside a Central Europe reorganization.
