Business
Wesizwe Platinum Limited is a platinum group metals (PGM) mining company focused on developing and operating mines in South Africa; its core asset is the Bakubung Platinum Mine (BPM), located approximately 40 km northwest of Rustenburg on the Western Limb of the Bushveld Complex, targeting Merensky and Upper Group 2 (UG2) chromitite layers to produce platinum, palladium, rhodium, gold, nickel, cobalt and copper concentrates via a phased processing plant with Module 1 operational at 83ktpm capacity from stockpiled ore and Module 2 planned for 2029. Incorporated on August 21, 2003, and headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa, with shares listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE: WEZ), the company aims to grow into a sustainable mid-tier multi-commodity mining house emphasizing high-value PGMs and strategic metals with long-term demand. Operations are centered in the North West Province, within the Bojanala Platinum District, Rustenburg and Moses Kotane Local Municipalities, serving global markets through its Chinese-backed consortium including major shareholder Jinchuan Group. Recent developments include ongoing ramp-up of underground mining at BPM with key infrastructure ahead of schedule and new contracts negotiated as of October 2025; financial support from Jinchuan comprising $90.75 million in loan advances since October 2024, extension of $156 million loans to December 2027, and pursuit of additional funding up to $1.52 billion pending approval from China's National Development and Reform Committee (NDRC) by mid-2025 amid listing suspension challenges; and reaffirmed commitment from Jinchuan, holding a 45% stake, to stabilize operations and balance sheet.
