Business
Wizz Air Holdings Plc operates as an ultra-low-cost airline group providing scheduled short-haul and medium-haul point-to-point passenger air transportation services across Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and Northwest Asia; the company offers flights under the Wizz Air brand through subsidiaries including Wizz Air Hungary, Wizz Air Malta, and Wizz Air UK, connecting approximately 200 destinations on over 800 routes in 50 countries with a fleet of 231 all-Airbus A320 family aircraft comprising A320-200s, A321-200s, A320neos, A321neos, and A321XLRs as of March 2025. Founded in 2003 and headquartered in Budapest, Hungary, with its parent company registered in Jersey and listed on the London Stock Exchange as a FTSE 250 constituent, Wizz Air maintains major bases at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport, Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport, and London Luton Airport while targeting price-sensitive leisure and visiting friends and relatives travelers primarily in Central and Eastern Europe where it holds the largest market share at 27%. Ancillary services such as baggage fees, seat selection, onboard sales, and travel insurance supplement core low-fare bookings, with nearly all reservations processed via its website and mobile app; the airline emphasizes operational efficiency, young fleet utilization, and environmental sustainability as Europe's lowest CO2 per revenue passenger kilometer carrier. Recent developments include plans to establish a new hub in Israel by April 2026 following talks with the Israeli government to enhance low-cost connectivity and reduce living costs, the announcement of H1 FY26 results showing 9% revenue growth to €3.34 billion and 26% operating profit increase to €439 million for the six months ended September 30, 2025, suspension of Abu Dhabi operations from September 1, 2025 due to geopolitical turmoil, supply chain issues, and regulatory barriers after four years of service from its former joint venture subsidiary Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, progress in resolving Pratt & Whitney engine faults reducing grounded aircraft to 41 as of September 2024 with 40-45 expected idled over the next 18 months, and an all-you-can-fly annual subscription launched in August 2024 that sold out within 24 hours for €499 plus per-flight fees.
