Business
Acacia Research Corporation (NASDAQ: ACTG) is a value-oriented acquirer and operator of businesses across public and private markets, primarily focused on the industrial, energy, technology, and manufacturing sectors in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific. Founded in 1993 and headquartered in New York, New York, the company operates through four main segments: Intellectual Property Operations, which involves investing in intellectual property and licensing and enforcing patented technologies; Industrial Operations, which designs and manufactures printers including hardware, embedded software, and consumable products such as inked ribbons for industrial printing applications; Energy Operations, which acquires, explores, develops, and produces oil and natural gas resources in Texas and Oklahoma; and Manufacturing Operations, which produces purchase brochure and folder display holders, plastic injection-molded office supply and arts and crafts products, plastic and aluminum air venting and control products, extruded vinyl chair mats, bicycle safety reflectors, and mud flaps and splash guards for the heavy-duty truck market. Acacia targets undervalued opportunities in mature industries, leveraging its capital resources, expertise in corporate governance, and operational restructuring to drive value creation without a fixed investment horizon. Recent major developments include the October 2024 acquisition of Deflecto Acquisition, Inc. for $103.7 million, adding a leading specialty manufacturer of essential products such as emergency warning triangles, vehicle mudguards, air ducts, air registers, literature holders, sign holders, and floor mats serving commercial transportation, HVAC, and office markets with nine facilities in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and China; the acquisition is expected to generate $128-$136 million in 2024 revenue and is immediately accretive to free cash flow and earnings per share. In Q3 2025, the company reported total revenue of $59.4 million, up 155% year-over-year, alongside a GAAP net loss of $2.7 million; leadership changes feature Martin D. McNulty, Jr. as CEO since February 2024 and Michael Zambito as CFO since June 2025. Acacia maintains a subsidiary, Acacia Research Group, focused on patent licensing partnerships with inventors, universities, and corporations across technology, medical technology, energy, and industrial fields.
