Business
Adams Resources & Energy, Inc. operates as a crude oil and natural gas marketing, transportation, terminalling, and storage company primarily serving the United States. The company’s core products and services include crude oil marketing; transportation of crude oil, liquid chemicals, pressurized gases, asphalt, and dry bulk commodities via an extensive fleet of tank trucks and trailers; pipeline transportation; terminalling and storage of crude oil and petroleum products, with storage capacity exceeding 7 million barrels; and recycling and repurposing of off-specification fuels, lubricants, crude oil, and other chemicals. It serves oil producers, refineries, chemical manufacturers, and industrial customers across key US oil and gas basins including the Gulf Coast, Eagle Ford Shale, Permian Basin, Bakken Shale, and Michigan. Founded in 1907 and headquartered in Houston, Texas, Adams operates through subsidiaries such as GulfMark Energy, Victoria Express Pipeline, GulfMark Terminals, Phoenix Oil, and Firebird Bulk Carriers. Recent major changes include the company's approval and impending completion of a merger agreement with an affiliate of Tres Energy LLC, expected in early 2025, which will result in Adams becoming a wholly owned private subsidiary, aimed at enhancing operational efficiencies and enabling greater strategic flexibility outside of public market pressures. The company's board and executive leadership experienced significant changes following the merger. Adams also executed a strategic exit from certain operations, such as the Red River operations in late 2023, to concentrate on core markets and enhance profitability. The firm continues to invest in infrastructure and technology to optimize logistics and safety in transport and storage operations, reinforcing its market position in crude oil and chemical logistics. Its reported 2024 revenue exceeded $2.4 billion, supported by strong crude oil marketing performance and stable transportation services.
