Business
Albany International Corp. (NYSE: AIN) is a leading materials science developer and manufacturer of engineered components focused on two core businesses: Machine Clothing and Albany Engineered Composites. The Machine Clothing segment produces custom-designed, consumable fabrics and process belts essential for the forming, pressing, and drying sections of paper machines used in manufacturing all grades of paper products, including tissue, towel, pulp, and board; it also offers engineered fabrics for nonwovens, fiber cement, building products, tannery, and textile industries. The Albany Engineered Composites segment designs and manufactures advanced composite structures and components using proprietary technologies such as 3D woven composites for demanding commercial and military aerospace applications, including the CFM LEAP engine, Lockheed F-35, Sikorsky CH-53K helicopter, and Boeing 787 airliner. Founded in 1895 and headquartered in Rochester, New Hampshire, the company operates 22 plants across 10 countries, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Switzerland, France, and China, serving global customers in the pulp and paper industry as well as aerospace and defense sectors. In recent developments, Albany International completed the acquisition of Heimbach GmbH in 2023, enhancing its paper machine clothing capabilities through successful integration; it initiated a strategic review of its structures assembly business in Salt Lake City in October 2025, including potential sale, to refocus on differentiated advanced composite technologies; and announced a $147 million loss reserve adjustment in Q3 2025 related to cost overruns on the CH-53K program while reaching a definitive agreement to conclude the Gulfstream contract.
