Antofagasta plc Antofagasta plc operates as a Chile-focused mining company primarily engaged in copper production and related by-products, alongside rail and road transport services for the mining sector. The company produces copper cathodes and concentrates, molybdenum concentrates, and gold and silver by-products through its mining operations at Los Pelambres in central Chile's Coquimbo Region, which yields copper concentrate with molybdenum; Centinela in northern Chile, producing copper concentrate with gold and silver plus copper cathodes; and Antucoya and Zaldívar, both generating copper cathodes; its Transport Division, Ferrocarril de Antofagasta a Bolivia, delivers rail, truck, and ancillary cargo services to mining customers in northern Chile. Founded in 1888 as a railway company and headquartered in London, United Kingdom, Antofagasta plc maintains operations concentrated in Chile's Antofagasta and Coquimbo Regions, with exploration in the Americas and select investments elsewhere; it targets smelters and fabricators, particularly in Asia. Recent developments include the October 2025 initiation of stripping at Centinela's Encuentro Sulphides pit to supply the under-construction Second Concentrator, boosting capacity by 95,000 tonnes per day and adding 170,000 tonnes of annual copper-equivalent output over a decade at a $1 billion cost; approval and advancement of the $4.4 billion Nueva Centinela project from 2023; a completed desalination plant expansion at Los Pelambres to 800 liters per second; $3.5 billion in planned 2025 investments for growth including Peru projects; a 2023 acquisition of 19% in Peru's Minera Buenaventura; and July 2025 divestiture of electricity transmission assets in Chile to REN for $67.5 million.
