Business
APA Group APA Group (ASX:APA) is Australia's leading energy infrastructure business, owning, operating and managing a diversified portfolio exceeding $27 billion in value that spans gas transmission pipelines, electricity transmission networks, gas-fired power generation, renewable energy assets including solar and wind farms, battery energy storage systems, and gas storage, processing and compression facilities; the company transports approximately half of the nation's domestic gas supply through around 15,000 kilometres of pipelines, connects key regions via 800 kilometres of high-voltage electricity transmission including deep-sea cables linking New South Wales to Queensland, Victoria to South Australia and Tasmania to Victoria, and delivers bundled energy solutions for remote grids particularly in the Pilbara region serving mining customers. Headquartered in Sydney, New South Wales, APA Group was established in 2000 following its demerger from Australian Gas Light Company and listed on the Australian Securities Exchange, with operations extending across all Australian states and territories and a workforce of approximately 2,700 employees. The company operates through three primary segments: Energy Infrastructure encompassing its core transmission, generation and storage assets; Asset Management providing operations, maintenance and management services to its investments and third parties such as Australian Gas Networks Limited and Energy Infrastructure Investments; and Energy Investments focusing on strategic stakes in complementary infrastructure. In recent developments, APA Group successfully integrated its 2023 acquisition of Pilbara Energy (formerly Alinta Energy's Pilbara operations) for $1.7 billion, adding over $3 billion in growth opportunities including solar, battery and gas assets to support decarbonization for mining clients; executed an agreement in 2025 to divest its gas distribution networks business and related operations and maintenance entities including Allgas to Australian Gas Infrastructure Group for approximately $47 million to sharpen focus on high-return energy infrastructure ownership; entered an agreement to acquire the Atlas to Reedy Creek Pipeline to bolster east coast gas capacity; launched a five-year East Coast Gas Grid expansion plan increasing north-to-south transport by 24% with new storage facilities; released its 2025 Climate Transition Plan targeting 30% emissions reductions in gas infrastructure and 35% in power generation intensity by 2030 alongside priority status for Pilbara transmission projects; and extended $1.75 billion in syndicated loans to fund ongoing investments in renewables, hydrogen exploration and electricity transmission as part of Australia's net zero transition.
