Versant Power, a regulated electric transmission and distribution utility and subsidiary of ENMAX Corporation, delivers electricity to approximately 165,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customer accounts across 10,400 square miles in five counties of northern and eastern Maine, including the Bangor Hydro District and Maine Public District; operates an extensive electricity grid comprising poles, wires, substations, meters, and related equipment; and provides specialized programs and services such as Maine Green Power, P.L.U.S. Program, Pine Tree Zone Electrical Rate, Voluntary Renewable Resource Fund, Municipal Street Lighting, Vegetation Management, Low Income Assistance, Special Services, electric vehicle charging rates, energy storage options, heat pump incentives, and advanced metering infrastructure. Headquartered in Bangor, Maine, with origins tracing to legacy companies founded around 1924, the company rebranded from Emera Maine in May 2020 following its $1.3 billion acquisition by ENMAX Corp. in March 2020. Recent developments include the unveiling of a custom-built mobile substation for enhanced reliability during upgrades and emergencies; completion of major 2024 infrastructure projects such as substation replacements in Machias and Tremont, transmission rebuilds in St. John Valley, covered wire installations across 23 miles in multiple towns, and interconnection of 218 megawatts of renewable generation including 600 rooftop solar arrays; receipt of a $65 million federal grant in October 2024 as part of the Flexible Interconnections and Resilience for Maine (FIRM) partnership with the Maine Governor's Energy Office and Central Maine Power to advance grid planning, stability, and renewable integration; deployment of new advanced meters for all residential and small-to-medium commercial customers to enable timely usage data, faster outage detection, and remote service management; and announcement in October 2025 of a leadership transition with Canadian utility executive Erica Young succeeding President John Flynn as president on May 1, 2026, following her role in the ENMAX acquisition and service on the company's board.
