- Compañía Pesquera Camanchaca S.A. is a vertically integrated Chilean seafood and aquaculture company engaged in the harvesting, farming, processing, and commercial distribution of marine products for human and animal consumption worldwide. Founded in 1965 and headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the company operates primarily through three business segments: Salmon Farming, Industrial Fishing, and Other Seafood. Its operations span the Chilean coastline, encompassing genetics, fresh- and salt-water hatcheries, ocean grow-out centers, industrial fishing vessels, and primary and value-added processing plants located across the Biobío, Los Lagos, Aysén, and Atacama regions. The company maintains an extensive global commercial distribution network anchored by its US sales subsidiary, Camanchaca Inc., based in Miami, Florida, along with commercial offices and representative agents serving clients in Japan, Europe, and Latin America.
The company offers a comprehensive portfolio of marine products, which includes: fresh, frozen, and value-added Atlantic salmon and Coho salmon supplied as whole gutted fish, fillets, portion-controlled cuts, and trim by-products; wild-caught pelagic products, including canned jack mackerel, frozen whole and headed-and-gutted jack mackerel, anchovy, and sardine; shellfish and crustacean products, including farmed Chilean mussels available in whole-shell, half-shell, and meat forms, farmed abalones, wild langostino lobsters, and shrimp; and marine ingredients, comprising high-protein premium and super-premium fishmeal along with crude and refined omega-3 rich fish oils for industrial animal nutrition and aquaculture feed. Camanchaca markets its product lines internationally and domestically under proprietary brand names such as Pier 33 Gourmet, Camanchaca Gourmet, and Único, as well as under customized private labels for major retail chains, food service operators, and institutional buyers across more than 50 countries.
In recent developments, Compañía Pesquera Camanchaca has advanced strategic, operational, and structural adjustments across its business divisions. Through its publicly listed salmon subsidiary, Salmones Camanchaca S.A., the company executed an operational turnaround characterized by substantial increases in Atlantic salmon harvest volumes, upgraded biological performance, and optimized cost structures to enhance operating margins. Concurrently, Salmones Camanchaca enacted the early termination of its one-third equity participation in a trout farming joint venture, concluding the liquidation of remaining finished goods inventory through 2025 to reallocate capital toward core Atlantic and Coho operations. In the industrial fishing division, the company has undertaken ongoing process automation and efficiency upgrades at its Coronel and Iquique processing plants while actively adapting its fleet operations and long-term supply agreements in response to Chilean legislative proposals regarding industrial fishing quota fractionation. Camanchaca also continues to deploy capital into environmental monitoring technologies, deep-net feeding systems, and renewable energy integrations across its farming and manufacturing facilities to mitigate climate-related biomass risks and enhance supply chain sustainability.
