Business
Brookfield Infrastructure Partners L.P. (NYSE: BIP; TSX: BIP.UN; BIP-PB) owns and operates a diversified global portfolio of infrastructure assets generating stable cash flows across utilities, transport, midstream, and data segments; the Utilities segment includes approximately 4,200 km of natural gas pipelines, 2,000 km of electricity transmission lines, 6.9 million electricity and natural gas connections, 1.5 million smart meters, 330,000 sub-metering services, centralized heating and cooling systems, gas distribution, cogeneration, water heaters, solar and energy storage solutions; the Transport segment encompasses 22,000 km of rail track in North America and Europe, 5,500 km in Western Australia, 4,800 km in Brazil, 3,800 km of toll roads in Brazil, Chile, Peru and India, and 13 port terminals offering storage and handling for freight, commodities and passengers; the Midstream segment features natural gas pipelines, storage facilities such as Lodi Gas Storage, Rockpoint Gas Storage, Warwick Gas Storage and NorthRiver Midstream; the Data segment provides data centers, fiber networks and telecommunications towers including Crest Digitel, Summit Digitel and Dawn Acquisitions. The partnership, spun off from Brookfield Asset Management in 2008 and headquartered in Toronto, Canada with a registered office in Bermuda, maintains operations across North and South America, Europe and Asia Pacific targeting essential services with high barriers to entry and low maintenance capital expenditures serving regulated, contracted and merchant customers including governments, utilities and commercial entities. Recent developments include the July 2025 acquisition of Colonial Enterprises, the largest U.S. refined products pipeline system spanning 5,500 miles for approximately $9 billion; the September 2025 purchase of Hotwire Communications, a leading U.S. bulk fiber provider; and an announced partnership with GATX for the second-largest North American railcar leasing platform expected to close in early 2026 alongside continued investments in data infrastructure and decarbonization initiatives.
