- Galata Wind Enerji A.S. (GWIND.IS) engages in the generation and sale of electricity from renewable energy sources in Turkey and Europe. The company operates three wind power plants, including Mersin WPP (62.7 MW), Şah WPP (105 MW), and Taşpınar WPP (79 MW following a 11.8 MW capacity increase in 2023 with two additional turbines); and three solar power plants, comprising Çorum SPP, Erzurum-Aziziye SPP, and Taşpınar Hybrid SPP (initial 9.4 MW commissioned in December 2023, with a second phase of 42 MW under construction for a total solar capacity contributing to 70.3 MW), yielding a total installed capacity of 354.2 MW, of which 283.9 MW derives from wind. It also designs and installs solar energy systems for rooftops on homes, schools, workplaces, fuel stations, and production centers; constructs, commissions, and leases electrical energy generation facilities; and develops renewable projects, including Agri-PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems.
Founded in 2006 as GY Enerji Danışmanlık Proje Mühendislik Üretim, Ticaret ve Sanayi Limited Şirketi and renamed Galata Wind Enerji A.S. in 2012 upon acquisition by Doğan Holding, of which it remains a subsidiary, the company is headquartered in Üsküdar, Istanbul, Turkey. Galata Wind sells its output primarily to the Turkey Interconnected Grid, targets residential, commercial, and industrial customers, and maintains Gold Standard and VCS certifications for environmentally friendly operations that reduce carbon emissions by approximately 430,000 tons annually. Its European expansion encompasses project development through wholly owned subsidiary SunSpark GmbH in Germany and Galata Wind Energy Global BV in the Netherlands (established July 2023).
Recent developments include the June 2025 acquisition by SunSpark GmbH of two solar power plant projects in southern Germany totaling 21 MW (9 MW and 12 MW), incorporating Agri-PV systems and BESS, elevating Galata Wind's targeted German capacity to 83 MW (43 MW Agri-PV and 40 MW BESS) toward a 300 MW European renewable goal by 2027; procurement of pre-licenses for seven Turkish power plants with 350 MW storage capacity in July 2023; signing of 300 MW PV project contracts in Europe in July 2023; a $45 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in October 2022 maturing in 2029; and acquisition of Gökova Elektrik Üretim ve Ticaret A.Ş. shares in September 2022. In 2021, the company completed its initial public offering and listed on Borsa İstanbul under GWIND.IS. Construction continues on the Taşpınar Hybrid SPP second phase.
