Business
MPL Plastics Limited is a company engaged in the design, manufacture, and supply of plastic household products primarily under the Milton brand. Its core product portfolio includes vacuum flasks (Armour Flask, Elite, Carolina Flask, Imagination Flask, Kool Pack Mark II, ICY Tot), casseroles (Crisp Dxl, Orion, Convoy, Buffet series, Cozee Ultra, Casino Ultra), tiffins, water bottles, water jugs, tumblers, mugs, boxes, cases, and other insulated thermoware items. The company caters mainly to the Indian market with a broad range of household utility plastics and thermoware products and has a legacy of over three decades in the organized plastics industry. MPL Plastics also historically offered baby care products, chinaware, glassware, and other domestic appliances through various partnerships and product expansions. In the last 1-2 years, MPL Plastics has experienced significant operational challenges. The company ceased all manufacturing operations and closed its Sivassa Pune plant, resulting in zero revenue reported for Q2 and H1 FY2026. The plant's machinery, land, building, and warehouse were sold off. Following adverse financial performance and erosion of net worth, the company’s auditors issued a negative opinion on its ability to continue as a going concern. Consequently, the board and shareholders approved the initiation of a corporate insolvency resolution process under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016, indicating a major strategic shift toward winding up operations. Additionally, the company scaled back non-core activities such as polymers trading and lease/finance services, and increased promoter stake through a preferential share issue recently. Founded in 1982 and headquartered in Pune, India, MPL Plastics Limited operates primarily in the plastic goods and thermoware manufacturing industry segment. While it has maintained a strong brand presence in India with its Milton thermoware products, these recent strategic and operational contractions have markedly disrupted its business continuity. The company had also developed proprietary technology in thermoware and pioneered several product categories in India such as microwavable containers, non-stick ware, and water purification systems. MPL Plastics Limited is publicly listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (Ticker: MPL.BO), serving primarily the domestic Indian market through retail and industrial customers. Its key business segments revolve around thermoware plastic household products, insulated containers, water storage solutions, and related product categories under multiple recognized sub-brands within the Milton portfolio. In sum, MPL Plastics Limited is a longstanding Indian manufacturer of plastic household and thermoware products with a diverse product range but has recently undergone severe operational and financial distress, leading to plant closures and insolvency proceedings that have critically impacted its ongoing business activities and future prospects.
