- C.N.T.E.E. Transelectrica SA is the national electricity transmission system operator of Romania, responsible for managing, operating, maintaining, and developing the Romanian National Power System as well as facilitating cross-border electricity exchanges within the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity. Founded in 2000 and headquartered in Bucharest, Romania, the company operates under a regulated natural monopoly model to ensure the security, stability, and continuity of electric power delivery across the country. Transelectrica manages an extensive high-voltage transmission network spanning over 8,800 kilometers of overhead power lines at voltage levels of 750 kV, 400 kV, and 220 kV, supported by 81 transformation and interconnection substations. The company provides electric power transmission services, transporting bulk electricity from generation facilities to regional distribution networks and directly connected high-voltage industrial end-users; system operation and dispatching services, directing physical energy flows, balancing real-time supply and demand, managing grid congestion, and coordinating ancillary system reserves through the National Power Dispatcher; wholesale electricity market administration services through its subsidiary OPCOM SA, which operates organized trading platforms including the Day-Ahead Market, Intraday Market, Centralized Bilateral Contracts Market, Balancing Market, Ancillary Services Market, and Green Certificates Market; specialized maintenance, technical diagnosis, overhaul, and repair services for high-voltage primary and secondary substation equipment provided through its subsidiary SMART SA; commercial telecommunications, data transmission, IT solutions, and fiber-optic network infrastructure services operating across more than 5,000 kilometers of optical ground wire managed through its subsidiary Teletrans SA; and specialized professional training, technical certification, and personnel development programs for the power sector through its subsidiary Formenerg SA. In recent operational and strategic developments, Transelectrica has accelerated its capital investment program under its ANRE-approved 2026–2035 Electricity Transmission Network Development Plan, focusing on grid digitalization, cross-border capacity expansion, and the integration of large-scale renewable energy generation from the Dobrogea and Banat regions. The company secured over EUR 67 million in non-reimbursable grant funding from the European Union Modernisation Fund for the DigiTEL Smart Lines initiative, deploying dynamic line rating technology across 27 transmission lines, and the installation of a high-capacity STATCOM voltage regulation system at the Gutinas substation under the CARMEN Project of Common Interest. Additionally, Transelectrica expanded its international partnerships by establishing the Bucharest-based joint venture Green Energy Corridor Energy Company alongside partner transmission operators to develop the Azerbaijan–Georgia–Romania–Hungary submarine high-voltage direct-current interconnection corridor, while advancing regional grid integration through cross-border transmission projects including the 400 kV Suceava–Balti interconnection line.
