Business
Capex S.A. is an integrated energy company headquartered in Vicente López, Argentina, engaged in the exploration, exploitation, and development of oil and gas reserves, thermal and renewable electric power generation, and the processing of hydrocarbon derivatives. Founded in 1988, the company operates across key hydrocarbon basins and energy markets in Argentina, maintaining a vertically integrated business model that links upstream hydrocarbon extraction with midstream processing and downstream power generation. The company organizes its operations into four principal business segments: Hydrocarbons, Electric Power Generation, Gas Processing and Liquid Hydrocarbons, and Renewable Energy and Other Activities. Its core product and service portfolio includes: crude oil extraction, producing Medanito and Escalante grades for domestic refineries and international export markets; natural gas production, supplied to thermoelectric plants, industrial consumers, and the domestic wholesale gas market; electric power generation, providing base-load and peak-load thermal electricity through the Agua del Cajón combined-cycle thermoelectric power plant in Neuquén Province with an installed capacity of approximately 672 megawatts, as well as renewable wind electricity generated through the Diadema Wind Farm in Chubut Province; liquefied petroleum gas and associated natural gas liquids processing, manufacturing commercial propane, commercial butane, and natural gasoline at its Agua del Cajón gas processing facilities; and renewable hydrogen and industrial-grade oxygen production through water electrolysis facilities operated by its subsidiary Hychico S.A. for clean energy generation and industrial applications. Capex S.A. supplies electric energy to the Argentine Interconnection System administered by the Wholesale Electricity Market Clearing Company (CAMMESA) and commercializes energy under long-term power purchase agreements in the Renewable Energy Term Market (MATER), while distributing refined and processed hydrocarbons to national energy companies, petrochemical producers, and commercial distributors. In recent developments, Capex S.A. has expanded its upstream acreage and consolidated its operational portfolio through strategic acquisitions and concession agreements across the Golfo San Jorge, Neuquén, and Austral basins, notably completing the acquisition of ENAP Sipetrol Argentina S.A. to incorporate operating interests in key onshore and offshore blocks including the Magallanes Area and Campamento Central-Cañadón Perdido fields. The company has advanced secondary and tertiary enhanced oil recovery projects, expanded drilling programs evaluating tight and shale gas potential in the Vaca Muerta formation, and increased its renewable generation footprint through expansions at the Diadema wind complex to support private industrial decarbonization contracts. To fund its multi-year drilling campaigns, field infrastructure upgrades, and debt amortization schedules, the company has completed multiple series of corporate bond issuances (Obligaciones Negociables) across domestic and international financial markets.
