- CanSino Biologics Inc. (CanSinoBIO; SSE: 688185, HKEX: 6185.HK) is a China-based biopharmaceutical company focused on the research, development, manufacturing, and commercialization of innovative vaccines for the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. Founded in 2009 and headquartered in Tianjin, People's Republic of China, the company operates manufacturing facilities in Tianjin and Shanghai, with local fill-and-finish production lines in Mexico, Pakistan, and Malaysia, and maintains a global marketing and supply network spanning Asia, Latin America, Africa, and other regions.
The company's core marketed products include Menhycia® (Group ACYW135 Meningococcal Polysaccharide Conjugate Vaccine (CRM197)), the first quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine approved in China for children aged 3 months to 6 years; Menphecia® (Groups A and C Meningococcal Polysaccharide Conjugate Vaccine (CRM197)), a bivalent vaccine demonstrating superior safety and immunogenicity profiles; iPneucia® (13-valent Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Conjugate Vaccine (CRM197/TT)), launched domestically as a high-end self-paid vaccine; Convidecia® (Recombinant Novel Coronavirus Vaccine (Adenovirus Type 5 Vector)) and Convidecia Air® (inhaled version), approved in multiple countries including WHO Emergency Use Listing; and Ad5-EBOV (recombinant Ebola virus vaccine), the first such product approved in China for emergency use and national stockpile. CanSinoBIO leverages five integrated platform technologies—adenovirus-based viral vector, synthetic biotechnology, protein structure design and VLP assembly, mRNA and LNP, and formulation and drug delivery—to support a pipeline addressing over 10 diseases, including pneumonia, pertussis, diphtheria, tetanus, tuberculosis, shingles, and polio, with candidates such as DTcP Infant, Tdcp Adolescent and Adult, Recombinant Poliomyelitis Vaccine (VLP-Polio), PBPV, Recombinant Zoster Vaccine, Inhaled TB Booster, and DTcP-Hib-MCV4 Combined Vaccine in clinical development.
In recent developments, CanSinoBIO's subsidiary CanSino (Shanghai) Biological Research Co., Ltd. signed a licensing agreement in November 2025 with PanRu Biotechnology (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., granting rights to its proprietary three-component lipid nanoparticle (ISL-3C-LNP) delivery system for global development of a therapeutic mRNA vaccine (PRBT001) targeting prostate cancer, expected to generate over RMB 100 million in proceeds including upfront and milestone payments. The company secured over US$17 million in additional grant funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 2024 to advance its Recombinant Poliomyelitis Vaccine (VLP-Polio) project and related combined vaccines, supporting WHO polio eradication efforts. Other key milestones include NDA approvals for iPneucia® and Tetanus Vaccine in June and February 2025, respectively; an exclusive commercialization agreement with Grand Life Sciences Group for Tetanus Vaccine in Greater China; Phase I trial initiation for Inhaled TB Booster in Indonesia in May 2025; clinical trial approval for Recombinant Poliomyelitis Vaccine from NMPA in July 2025; and expanded indications for Menhycia® in Indonesia with Halal certification, alongside strategic collaborations such as with National Institutes of Biotechnology Malaysia for mRNA multi-valent influenza vaccines. These initiatives underscore CanSinoBIO's focus on pipeline advancement, global partnerships, and commercialization expansion in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.
