Business
Cocrystal Pharma, Inc. (Nasdaq: COCP) is a clinical-stage biotechnology company that discovers and develops novel antiviral therapeutics targeting the replication process of influenza viruses, coronaviruses including SARS-CoV-2, noroviruses, and hepatitis C virus; the company employs a proprietary structure-based drug discovery platform leveraging Nobel Prize-winning expertise to create broad-spectrum small-molecule antivirals that bind conserved viral enzyme regions for efficacy against mutations and reduced side effects. Headquartered in Bothell, Washington, and founded in 2007, Cocrystal focuses on serious and chronic viral diseases with significant unmet needs, operating primarily in the United States with clinical trials conducted in Australia and the United Kingdom. Its lead product candidates include CC-42344, an oral PB2 inhibitor in Phase 2 for seasonal and pandemic influenza A including resistant and H5N1 strains, an inhaled formulation of CC-42344 completed through preclinical toxicology for influenza A prophylaxis and treatment, CDI-988 an oral pan-viral protease inhibitor in Phase 1 with FDA IND clearance for a Phase 1b norovirus challenge study as both preventive and therapeutic targeting norovirus and coronaviruses, CDI-988 also demonstrating activity against common human coronaviruses rhinoviruses and respiratory enteroviruses, plus early-stage programs in influenza A/B replication inhibitors, norovirus replication inhibitors, and pan-viral respiratory inhibitors. Recent developments include completion of the CC-42344 Phase 2a human challenge study in November 2025 with favorable safety and no serious adverse events though efficacy not reported due to trial conduct issues, FDA clearance in September 2025 for the CDI-988 norovirus Phase 1b challenge study with enrollment planned for Q1 2026, a $500,000 NIH SBIR Phase I award in October 2025 to advance influenza A/B polymerase inhibitors, a $1.03 million private placement in October 2025 led by directors and management including Chairman Phillip Frost with potential additional $1.83 million from warrants, and a $4.7 million registered direct offering in September 2025 with up to $8.3 million more from warrants; earlier an ongoing Merck collaboration since 2019 provides milestone funding for influenza programs, favorable Phase 1 safety data for CDI-988 across all doses including high-dose 1200 mg presented in August 2025, and superiority of CDI-988 against prevalent GII.17 norovirus strains shown in April 2025.
