Centrica plc is a British multinational energy and services company that supplies gas and electricity to residential and business customers, provides energy trading, home services, connected home solutions, and operates across the energy value chain from production to storage and optimization. Founded in 1997 following the demerger of British Gas plc and headquartered in Windsor, Berkshire, United Kingdom, the company operates primarily in the UK and Republic of Ireland, with additional activities in Europe and North America through brands including British Gas, Bord Gáis Energy, Hive, Dyno, PH Jones, Centrica Business Solutions, Centrica Energy, Spirit Energy, and Centrica Nuclear. Core products and services encompass gas and electricity supply to over 8 million homes via British Gas and Bord Gáis Energy; home repairs, maintenance, heating installations, and plumbing through British Gas Services & Solutions, Dyno-Rod, and PH Jones; smart home devices, thermostats, and software via Hive; low-carbon energy solutions, battery storage, solar PV, and combined heat and power for commercial and industrial clients through Centrica Business Solutions; global energy trading, procurement, and optimization via Centrica Energy; gas production primarily in the North Sea through Spirit Energy; nuclear power generation and life extensions via Centrica Nuclear; and gas storage at Rough facility and Easington terminal through Centrica Energy Storage. In recent developments, Centrica completed the acquisition of a 50% stake in Grain LNG from National Grid in November 2025 in partnership with Energy Capital Partners for an enterprise value of approximately £1.5 billion, enhancing UK energy security and LNG import capabilities; acquired a 15% stake in the Sizewell C nuclear power station; extended lives of existing nuclear power stations in 2024; restarted Rough gas storage operations in 2022; and launched initiatives such as the Energised Futures research venture and Athletes Pathway employment program in 2024.
