Business
Centerspace Centerspace (NYSE: CSR), a diversified multifamily real estate investment trust, owns, operates, manages, acquires, redevelops and develops apartment communities comprising over 13,000 apartment homes across approximately 70 properties primarily in the Midwest and Mountain West regions of the United States; its core offerings include well-located residential rentals with community amenities such as pools, fitness centers and professional on-site management services targeting middle-income renters in key markets including Denver Colorado, Minneapolis Minnesota, Omaha Nebraska, Billings Montana, Salt Lake City Utah, Fort Collins Colorado and surrounding areas in Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana. Founded in 1970 as Investors Real Estate Trust in Minot North Dakota where it maintains corporate headquarters alongside operational offices in Minneapolis Minnesota, the company rebranded to Centerspace in 2019 to emphasize its refined focus on resident-centric apartment living and community development. Centerspace generates revenue predominantly from rental income supplemented by resident fees, utilities and other property-related services while pursuing a value-add strategy through targeted renovations, operational enhancements and disciplined capital allocation to drive occupancy rates above 94 percent and rental growth. In recent developments, Centerspace expanded geographically by entering the Salt Lake City market with the May 2025 acquisition of the 341-unit Sugarmont community for $149 million and acquiring a 420-unit property in Fort Collins Colorado for $132 million; the company published its sixth annual Environmental Social and Governance report alongside an inaugural Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures report in August 2025 underscoring sustainability commitments; and in November 2025 confirmed its Board of Trustees initiated a formal review of strategic alternatives including potential sale merger or other business combinations supported by advisors BMO Capital Markets and Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz with no set timetable or assured outcome. Centerspace was recognized as a top workplace for the fifth consecutive year in 2024 by the Minneapolis Star Tribune highlighting its resident-focused culture guided by core values of being bold curious and together.
