Business
De La Rue plc De La Rue plc (DELRF) is the world's leading commercial banknote printer headquartered in Basingstoke, England, and founded in 1813 by Thomas de la Rue as a stationer and printer. The company designs, manufactures, and supplies high-security banknotes, polymer substrates, and security features including holograms, threads, and printed products to over 140 central banks, governments, and issuing authorities worldwide; it also provides end-to-end currency services encompassing secure printing, public awareness campaigns, and cash cycle analytics from its facilities in the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka, and Malta. In addition, De La Rue offers authentication solutions such as tax stamps, product authentication labels, secure documents, certificates, polycarbonate data pages for passports, and track-and-trace software to combat counterfeiting, protect revenue, and ensure supply chain integrity for governments and commercial clients including brands like Microsoft. Operations span two primary segments of currency production and authentication, serving more than half of global issuing authorities and focusing on markets in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas. In a major strategic shift, De La Rue transitioned to private ownership under Atlas Holdings in July 2025 following a £263 million recommended takeover at 130p per share, enhancing long-term stability after completing a turnaround plan since 2020 that improved efficiency and profitability; recent divestitures include the sale of its Identity Solutions business to HID Global in 2019 for £42 million and an agreement in October 2024 to sell the Authentication Division, alongside earlier disposals like the Cash Handling division in 2016 and paper business in 2018.
