Business
Ceres Power Holdings plc develops and commercializes clean energy technology focused on solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) and solid oxide electrolyser cells (SOEC) for distributed power generation and green hydrogen production. The company’s core products include its patented SteelCell, a solid oxide fuel cell based on a ceria ceramic electrolyte and stainless-steel substrate, which operates on multiple fuels such as natural gas, biogas, ethanol, and hydrogen; these cells are integrated into proprietary stacks and system modules including power modules, stack array modules, and electrolyser modules. Ceres licenses its differentiated steel-supported SOFC and SOEC technology to global manufacturing partners who embed it into validated product designs for applications across data centers, commercial and industrial power, marine power, ammonia production, refineries, green steel, and e-fuels. Founded in 2001 and headquartered in Horsham, UK, Ceres operates across Europe, Asia, and North America with an asset-light licensing business model leveraging over 150 patent families developed through 24 years of R&D expertise. Recent developments include strategic collaborations and partnerships with industry leaders such as Doosan Fuel Cell, Bosch, Centrica, Delta Electronics, and AtkinsRéalis to accelerate the commercialization and scale-up of solid oxide fuel cell and electrolyser technologies. Ceres has recently seen commercial progress with the launch of factory facilities and mass production agreements for its solid oxide hydrogen energy solutions, including a new factory site investment by Delta Electronics. The company also plays a leading role in the global hydrogen economy and has joined the Global Hydrogen Council to advance clean energy transitions. Its technology is noted for enabling low-cost, high-efficiency green hydrogen production and power generation using existing natural gas infrastructure, supporting major decarbonization efforts in sectors such as ammonia synthesis, steelmaking, and energy storage. Ceres Power Holdings plc is publicly listed on the London Stock Exchange (Ticker: CWR.L) and is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index. It holds the LSE Green Economy Mark for deriving over 50% of its activity from the green economy. The company employs approximately 478 staff and continues to expand its technological reach globally through license partnerships and technology embedding in clean energy systems across multiple sectors and geographies.
