Business
Airbus SE operates as Europe's largest aerospace company, designing, manufacturing and delivering commercial aircraft, helicopters, military transport aircraft, satellites, launchers and defence systems; it provides related services including maintenance, upgrades and training worldwide. The company segments its activities into commercial aircraft encompassing single-aisle models such as the A320 family and widebody aircraft including the A330, A350 and A380; helicopters covering civil and military rotorcraft through Airbus Helicopters; and defence and space solutions featuring military air systems, space infrastructure for telecommunications, earth observation and navigation, missiles and cybersecurity services. Founded in 1970 and headquartered in Leiden, Netherlands, with major assembly sites in Toulouse, France, Hamburg, Germany, and facilities across Europe, North America, Asia and Africa, Airbus serves airlines, governments, armed forces and space agencies globally while pursuing net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 through fuel-efficient designs and alternative fuels. Airbus maintains production of key aerostructures including A320 and A350 wings in Prestwick, Scotland; A220 wings and mid-fuselage in Belfast, Northern Ireland; A350 fuselage sections in Kinston, North Carolina, and St. Nazaire, France; and A321 and A220 components in Casablanca, Morocco. In April 2025, Airbus signed a definitive agreement to acquire these Spirit AeroSystems assets dedicated to its commercial programmes, expected to close in the third quarter of 2025 subject to approvals, aiming to secure supply chain stability; Airbus also provides Spirit $200 million in non-interest-bearing credit lines to support ongoing Airbus work. In October 2025, Airbus, Leonardo and Thales signed a memorandum of understanding to combine space activities into a new European entity operational by 2027, pooling satellite systems, manufacturing and services with Airbus contributing 35% ownership to enhance strategic autonomy and competitiveness. Airbus continues its 2025 share buyback programme, launching the second tranche in November for up to 2.07 million shares to fund employee equity plans.
