Business
Parex Resources Inc. (TSX: PXT) is a Canada-based independent oil and gas company focused on the exploration, development, production, and marketing of crude oil and natural gas primarily in Colombia. The company holds principal land positions and exploration blocks in the prolific Llanos Basin, Magdalena Basin, and Putumayo Basin, where it applies industry-proven technologies new to Colombia to develop conventional onshore assets; its core operations encompass sustainable production of light and medium crude oil, implementation of secondary recovery programs, and drilling of development and exploration wells targeting best-in-class shareholder returns. Parex serves domestic and international markets through its Colombia segment, which generates the majority of revenue, supplemented by limited Canadian activities, while prioritizing local procurement, community partnerships, and adherence to high governance, environmental, and social standards. Founded in 2009 and headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, with key operations offices in Bogota, Colombia, Parex employs approximately 450 personnel and maintains a strong presence in Colombia's onshore basins to support economic development. In recent strategic developments, Parex announced an enhanced partnership with Ecopetrol in December 2024, acquiring 50% working interest in four Putumayo Basin blocks and the Farallones Block in the Llanos Foothills; this includes funding Phase I development with approximately $175 million in carry capital for secondary recovery and wells, plus $30 million commitment for the Farallones exploration well, adding proven reserves of 10 million barrels (1P) and 18 million barrels (2P). Further, in October 2025, Parex proposed acquiring GeoPark Limited and acquired an 11.8% stake in the company to advance the transaction, signaling aggressive portfolio expansion. These moves consolidate Parex's position in high-potential trends, with initial Putumayo access expected in Q2 2025 and FY 2025 capital allocations of $20-50 million for the new assets.
