Business
First Savings Financial Group, Inc. First Savings Financial Group, Inc. (FSFG), an Indiana corporation founded in May 2008 and headquartered in Jeffersonville, Indiana, operates as the holding company for First Savings Bank, a community-oriented financial institution serving consumers and businesses primarily in South Central Indiana, including Clark, Floyd, Harrison, Crawford, Washington, and Daviess counties, with select nationwide activities. The company conducts operations through three main segments: Core Banking, which originates residential real estate loans (primarily one- to four-family mortgages, including fixed-rate and adjustable-rate products), commercial real estate loans (including single-tenant net lease financing secured by investment-grade national retailers), commercial business loans, multi-family loans, residential and commercial construction loans, land and land development loans, and consumer loans such as home equity lines of credit; SBA Lending, which focuses on originating SBA 7(a) program loans for sale of guaranteed portions in the secondary market while retaining unguaranteed portions to diversify geographic and interest rate risk; and Mortgage Banking, which previously originated nationwide residential mortgages for whole-loan secondary market sales but wound down operations in late 2023, with core residential lending continuing locally. First Savings Bank accepts deposits including checking accounts, NOW and money market accounts, regular savings accounts, and certificates of deposit; maintains an investment portfolio of U.S. Treasury notes, agency securities, mortgage-backed securities, municipal bonds, and SBA-guaranteed asset-backed securities for liquidity and yield; and offers additional services through subsidiaries like Q2 Business Capital, LLC for SBA loan servicing and First Savings Investments, Inc. for securities management. In September 2025, the company entered a definitive all-stock merger agreement with First Merchants Corporation First Merchants Corporation valued at approximately $241.3 million, under which FSFG shareholders will receive 0.85 shares of First Merchants common stock per FSFG share, pending regulatory and shareholder approvals with an expected closing in the first quarter of 2026; this transaction, announced as enhancing market position in Indiana through added branches, triple net lease financing, first lien HELOCs, and SBA lending capabilities, represents a major strategic shift following the mortgage banking wind-down.
