Business
General Dynamics Corporation serves as a global leader in the aerospace and defense sectors, delivering a broad array of sophisticated products and services across the world. The company organizes its operations into four principal segments: Aerospace, Marine Systems, Combat Systems, and Technologies. The Aerospace segment is dedicated to the design, manufacturing, and global sale of premium business jets, notably through its Gulfstream brand, and extends comprehensive aircraft maintenance, repair, management, charter, and ground support services under Jet Aviation. This division has recently seen significant activity with the introduction of new aircraft models like the Gulfstream G300 and the progress in certifications and deliveries for the G700 and G800. The Marine Systems division specializes in the conception, construction, and upkeep of vital naval vessels, including nuclear-powered submarines such as the Columbia and Virginia-class, along with surface combatants like the Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, and various auxiliary ships for the United States Navy. It also engages in building commercial vessels, including oil tankers and container ships, while providing extensive lifecycle support and modernization services for marine fleets. Recent large contracts include significant awards for Columbia-class submarine hull construction and fleet oilers. The Combat Systems segment is responsible for engineering and producing advanced land combat solutions. Its portfolio encompasses wheeled and tracked combat vehicles such as the M1 Abrams main battle tanks and Stryker armored vehicles, along with a range of weapon systems, munitions, and mobile bridging solutions. This segment further offers vital modernization programs, engineering expertise, and sustainment support for these critical defense assets. Lastly, the Technologies segment delivers cutting-edge information technology solutions and crucial mission support services. This includes secure mobile communication systems, advanced computing platforms, command-and-control mission capabilities, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) solutions for military, intelligence, and federal government clients. The segment also integrates capabilities in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data analytics, cybersecurity, and unmanned undersea vehicle development. General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), a business unit, recently secured a substantial task order to support U.S. Army operations in Europe and Africa. Tracing its origins back to the Electric Boat Company in 1899, General Dynamics Corporation was formally established in 1952 and maintains its headquarters in Reston, Virginia.
