Thungela Resources Limited Thungela Resources Limited is a pure-play producer and exporter of high-quality, cost-competitive thermal coal with operations in South Africa and Australia. The company owns interests in seven mining operations, including opencast mines such as Isibonelo, Khwezela, Mafube and Rietvlei collieries; underground mines such as Zibulo, Greenside and Goedehoop collieries; and the Elders project, along with a 50% interest in the Phola Coal Processing Plant and a 23% indirect interest in the Richards Bay Coal Terminal, primarily located in South Africa's Mpumalanga province and the Ensham underground mine in Australia. Thungela Resources Limited focuses on high-quality coal reserves and marketable production for global energy markets, delivering through world-class ports; it also provides supporting services across its opencast, underground and services segments. Founded in 1945 with roots tracing to earlier mining activities and spun off from Anglo American plc in June 2021, the company is headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa. Recent developments include a R400 million capital investment for acquiring a modular liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant and associated site infrastructure; completion of a R54 million tarred road project by its 50% joint venture Mafube Coal with Exxaro in Mpumalanga to improve community access; and the acquisition of 175,190 shares for its share plan, alongside strong interim results for the half year ended 30 June 2025 with an ordinary cash dividend declaration and ongoing share repurchases.
