SSAB AB (publ) SSAB AB (publ) is a Nordic and US-based steel company that specializes in the development and production of high-strength steels and steel-based services for demanding applications across automotive, heavy transport, construction, mining, and energy sectors. SSAB AB (publ) offers quenched and tempered steels and advanced high-strength steels (AHSS) through its SSAB Special Steels division; strip, heavy plate, and tubular products via SSAB Europe; heavy plates through SSAB Americas; a full range of steel and non-ferrous metals distribution in the Nordics and Baltics by subsidiary Tibnor; and energy-efficient building solutions by subsidiary Ruukki Construction, featuring brands such as Hardox, Strenx, Docol, GreenCoat, Armox, Toolox, SSAB Domex, and SSAB Zero. The company maintains production facilities in Sweden (Luleå, Borlänge, Oxelösund), Finland (Raahe, Hämeenlinna), and the US (Mobile, Alabama; Montpelier, Iowa), with an annual crude steel capacity of 8.8 million tonnes, and operates in over 50 countries with approximately 14,600 employees. Founded in 1978 through the merger of Swedish steelworks and headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, SSAB AB (publ) holds leading positions in premium high-strength steels globally and in flat steel/tubular products in the Nordics as well as heavy plate in North America. SSAB AB (publ) advances its sustainability agenda with ongoing conversion projects, including construction of an electric arc furnace in Oxelösund set for late 2026 operation using recycled scrap and fossil-free sponge iron to reduce Scope 1 CO2 emissions by up to 1.5 million tonnes annually, and a major EUR 4.5 billion mini-mill investment in Luleå approved in April 2024 with EUR 2.7 billion financing secured in 2025 to replace blast furnaces, boost premium product capacity including advanced high-strength steels and low-CO2 variants, and cut emissions by up to 3 million tonnes upon 2028 completion. The company shipped over 50,000 tonnes of SSAB Zero low-emission steel in 2024, launched the world's first fossil-free steel powder for 3D printing, and continued HYBRIT fossil-free steel pilot deliveries while updating climate targets aligned with the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C scenario for net zero by 2045.
