Business
Metsä Board Oyj produces premium fresh fibre paperboards for consumer goods packaging, retail-ready applications and food service uses; its core products include lightweight folding boxboards such as MetsäBoard Classic FBB, food service boards and white kraftliners, with the company recognised as the world's largest producer of coated white kraftliners sourced from sustainably managed northern European forests. Founded in 1986 and headquartered in Espoo, Finland, Metsä Board operates mills in Finland including Kemi, Kyröskoski, Simpele, Äänekoski, Kaskinen and Joutseno, serving global markets across Europe, Americas and Asia as part of the Metsä Group forest industry organisation. The company provides Metsä Board 360 Services supporting packaging design, recyclability, production efficiency and environmental impact reduction; it emphasises sustainability with goals for completely fossil-free mills and raw materials by 2030. In 2025, Metsä Board launches a EUR 200 million cost savings and profitability improvement programme initiated on 31 July, including change negotiations concluded in Finland on 12 November resulting in 150 position reductions and EUR 12 million one-off costs, alongside potential temporary layoffs at Finnish mills; it completes a EUR 60 million modernisation at Simpele mill and launches enhanced MetsäBoard Classic FBB in October, signs a EUR 250 million sustainability-linked revolving credit facility in October replacing a prior EUR 200 million facility, announces CFO change in October, reports a comparable operating result of EUR -45 million for January-September and updates its disclosure policy to discontinue result guidance.
