Business
Hecla Mining Company (NYSE:HL), founded in 1891 and headquartered in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, is the largest silver producer in the United States and Canada and a leading U.S. critical minerals producer that discovers, develops, and operates precious and base metal mines primarily in North America. The company produces silver, gold, lead, and zinc concentrates as well as doré bars containing silver and gold, which it sells to custom smelters, metal traders, and third-party processors; its key operations include the Greens Creek mine on Admiralty Island in southeast Alaska, a high-grade polymetallic underground mine yielding substantial silver, gold, lead, and zinc output; the Lucky Friday mine in Idaho's Silver Valley, focusing on silver-lead-zinc concentrates; the Keno Hill mine in Canada's Yukon Territory, ramping up toward commercial production by 2027 at 345-385 tons per day and full nameplate capacity in 2028 pending water discharge approvals; and the Casa Berardi mine in Quebec, a primary gold producer; additional exploration and development assets encompass the Montanore project in Montana, acquired through the completion of its purchase of Mines Management Inc. in early 2024 for approximately $46 million in stock, positioning it as a potential major silver and copper producer pending final permitting; the Midas project in Nevada, where high-grade gold and silver discoveries announced in late 2025 revealed visible gold in new structures and offer restart potential using existing permitted facilities with lower capital needs; the Toboggan gold property in Idaho, sold to Idaho Strategic Resources in July 2025 for $300,000 cash while retaining a 1% net smelter royalty on select areas; and the Polaris project at the historic Aurora mining district in Nevada, which received U.S. Forest Service permitting approval in November 2025 for a 2026 high-grade gold-silver exploration program leveraging onsite infrastructure including a 600-ton-per-day mill. Hecla reported record Q3 2025 revenue and net income alongside significant net leverage reduction, reflecting robust operational performance across its portfolio amid ongoing brownfields and greenfields exploration expansions.
