- Brim hf. (BRIM.IC) is an Iceland-based seafood company engaged in the fishing, processing, and marketing of groundfish and pelagic fish harvested from Icelandic waters. Founded in 1985 and headquartered in Reykjavik, the company operates integrated facilities across four locations in Iceland, including processing plants in Reykjavik, Akranes, and Vopnafjordur, as well as a fleet comprising three freezing vessels, four wetfish trawlers, and three pelagic vessels; it employs approximately 800 full-time staff at sea and ashore. Brim produces a diverse range of high-quality, traceable products certified under international standards such as IFS, FEMAS, IFFO, HACCP, MSC, and IRF, with emphasis on sustainability, innovation, and full utilization of raw materials; core offerings include fresh and frozen groundfish such as cod (Gadus morhua), haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus), saithe (Pollachius virens), redfish (Sebastes mentella), golden redfish (Sebastes marinus), Greenland halibut (Reinhardtius hippoglossoides), silver smelt (Argentina silus), and halibut; pelagic species encompassing capelin (Mallotus villosus), herring (Clupea harengus), mackerel (Scomber scombrus), and blue whiting (Micromesistius poutassou); additional by-products like fishmeal, fish oil, roe from lumpfish, capelin, cod, and others produced via subsidiary operations, and dried fish products. These products serve markets worldwide, primarily in Europe, Asia, North America, and Africa, targeting wholesalers, retailers, and industrial users in the food production and aquaculture sectors. In a significant strategic expansion, Brim hf. agreed in September 2025 to acquire all shares in Icelandic fish oil producer Lysi hf. for an enterprise value of ISK 30 billion (approximately EUR 200 million), payable half in cash and half in Brim shares, pending approvals from boards, shareholders, and the Competition Authority; this move aims to secure synergies in raw material supply and advance Brim further up the seafood value chain. Formerly known as HB Grandi hf. until its rebranding in 2019, Brim maintains a public listing on the Nasdaq Iceland Main Market and upholds a commitment to environmental responsibility, fleet modernization for reduced emissions, and workplace safety enhancements.
