Business
SSAB AB (publ) is a leading Nordic and US-based steel company specializing in the production, development, and sale of high-strength steel products and value-added steel solutions. Its core product offerings include hot-rolled, cold-rolled, and organic-coated steel sheets; quenched and tempered steels; advanced high-strength steel products; heavy plates; tubular products; steel and non-ferrous metals distribution; as well as building and construction solutions. The company markets its steel under prominent brand names such as Strenx, Hardox, Docol, GreenCoat, Toolox, Armox, Duroxite, Cor-Ten, SSAB Domex, SSAB Form, and SSAB Weathering. Its operations are organized into five segments: SSAB Special Steels, SSAB Europe, SSAB Americas, Tibnor, and Ruukki Construction. Tibnor and Ruukki operate as independent subsidiaries. SSAB serves a diverse range of industries including heavy transport, automotive, material handling, construction machinery, energy, construction, protection, and tooling. The company conducts its business principally in Sweden, Finland, the United States, the rest of Europe, and internationally. Founded in 1878, SSAB is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. In terms of recent strategic developments, SSAB is accelerating its transition towards premium and fossil-free steel, aiming to increase premium steel shipments to 65 percent by 2030 and 75 percent by 2035 while targeting an over-cycle EBITDA of about SEK 23 billion post 2030. Its growth strategy centers on upgrading its product mix toward higher-value advanced steels, expanding shipments of decarbonized steel, and enhancing value-added service solutions through its Ruukki and Tibnor networks. Within five years, SSAB Europe plans to supply about one million metric tons of fossil-free steel to key industries. Additionally, in early 2025, SSAB divested its expandable rock bolt production facility in Virsbo, Sweden, to Jennmar as part of its portfolio optimization. The company has also recently entered partnerships for fossil-free steel supply, including a notable cooperation with EAB for warehouse fittings and doors applications under the SSAB Zero™ brand. These initiatives underscore SSAB’s strategic focus on sustainability, innovation, and premium product leadership in the steel industry. Overall, SSAB AB is positioned as a globally integrated steel maker with a comprehensive product portfolio of high-strength, advanced, and sustainable steels, supported by a robust service network, which targets a broad spectrum of industrial end-markets across multiple geographies. The company is publicly listed with ticker SSAAF and pursues ongoing transformation to enhance profitability and maintain leadership in premium steel solutions.
