Business
Komatsu Ltd. operates as a global manufacturer and supplier of construction, mining, and industrial equipment. The company’s core products include hydraulic excavators; bulldozers; wheel loaders; dump trucks; motor graders; forklifts; and industrial machinery. In mining, Komatsu offers a broad range of equipment covering surface mining and underground mining with loaders, articulated dump trucks, face drilling rigs, and bolters. The company also provides advanced digital technologies and services including Smart Construction solutions, fleet management systems through its iVolve acquisition, and intelligent machine control technology aimed at enhancing safety, efficiency, and productivity on worksites. Komatsu serves markets worldwide including Japan, North America, Europe/CIS, China, Asia/Oceania, Middle East/Africa, Latin America, and others. Founded in 1921, Komatsu is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. Komatsu recently completed the acquisition of GHH Group GmbH, a German manufacturer specializing in underground mining, tunneling, and civil engineering equipment, which broadens Komatsu’s underground mining portfolio and global manufacturing footprint. In 2024, Komatsu launched a new Z3 series of medium-size class face drilling rigs and bolters designed for underground hard rock mining with enhanced interchangeability and plans for diesel and battery-powered models supporting autonomous operation. The company also debuted the WX04B, its first battery-electric powered load-haul dump (LHD) for narrow vein underground mining, alongside new electric excavators in the 20-tonne range showcased at MINExpo 2024. In 2025, Komatsu introduced the PC220LCi-12, a next-generation hydraulic excavator with advanced ICT and intelligent machine control technology, targeting markets in Europe, North America, and Australia to address workforce shortages and improve construction productivity. Komatsu’s acquisition of fleet management provider iVolve in 2025 further expands its digital offering, enhancing integrated remote asset and operational management. Komatsu continues to invest in electrification, automation, and service innovation to drive sustainable growth and operational resilience in the construction and mining sectors.
