Business
Kronos Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: KRO) produces and markets value-added titanium dioxide (TiO2) pigments; iron-based chemicals, which are co-products and processed co-products of the sulfate and chloride process TiO2 pigment production; and other specialty chemicals, which are side-stream products from TiO2 production. The company offers over 50 different TiO2 pigment grades under the KRONOS trademark, providing a variety of performance properties such as high refractive index, UV resistance, and durability for specific customer requirements in coatings, plastics, paper, printing inks, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and decorative laminates; these products are sold through agents and distributors to manufacturers worldwide. Kronos operates production facilities with a global footprint spanning North America (38% of revenue), Europe (42%), Asia-Pacific (15%), and the rest of the world (5%), serving over 3,000 customers in approximately 100 countries. Founded in 1916 in Norway as Titan Co AS and headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Kronos Worldwide, Inc. is a subsidiary of Valhi, Inc., with key subsidiaries including Kronos Norge AS and, following its July 2024 acquisition, full ownership of Louisiana Pigment Company, L.P. (LPC). The LPC acquisition, completed for $185 million upfront plus a potential $15 million earn-out, integrates the newest chloride-process TiO2 facility in the Western world as a wholly-owned subsidiary, enabling expanded product offerings, increased sales to new and existing North American customers, significant synergies in commercial operations, overhead, and supply chain optimization, and process innovations to boost capacity and efficiency. Concurrently, the company amended its global revolving credit facility with Wells Fargo, raising the borrowing limit from $225 million to $300 million, extending maturity to 2029, and incorporating LPC's receivables and inventories into the borrowing base to enhance liquidity and support growth.
