- Magyar Telekom Telecommunications Public Limited Company is the principal telecommunications and information and communications technology service provider in Hungary. Founded in 1991 and headquartered in Budapest, Hungary, the company operates as a consolidated subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom AG through its majority shareholder Deutsche Telekom Europe B.V. Magyar Telekom provides integrated communications, digital entertainment, and IT solutions across two primary operating segments: MT-Hungary, serving domestic residential and business markets, and North Macedonia, which delivers telecommunications services through its majority-owned subsidiary Makedonski Telekom AD Skopje.
The company delivers a comprehensive portfolio of telecommunications, digital media, and enterprise technology services to individual consumers, small and medium-sized enterprises, large corporations, and public sector institutions. Its core offerings comprise mobile telecommunications services, including 4G/LTE and 5G cellular voice, high-speed mobile broadband, international roaming, and mobile equipment sales; fixed-line connectivity solutions, including gigabit-capable fiber-to-the-home and cable broadband internet, fixed voice telephony, and leased line data transmission; converged multi-play packages marketed under the Magenta 1 brand, integrating mobile, fixed broadband, and television subscriptions; digital entertainment services, including interactive IPTV, video-on-demand platforms, and multimedia streaming services; enterprise ICT and system integration solutions, including cloud infrastructure hosting, data center colocation, software-defined wide area networking, Internet of Things connectivity, and cybersecurity management; private 5G campus networks for industrial automation; and wholesale carrier services, including domestic and international traffic transit, dark fiber access, and network capacity leasing.
In recent strategic and operational developments, Magyar Telekom separated its passive mobile telecommunications infrastructure, transferring its tower and rooftop base station assets into a wholly owned dedicated subsidiary, Magyar Telekom Mobile Infra Zrt. The company also entered into a network cooperation agreement with Yettel Hungary to migrate its 2G voice and data traffic onto Yettel's physical network, facilitating frequency refarming to bolster 4G and 5G network capacity. To accelerate broadband coverage in underserved rural municipalities, the company secured 13.5 billion Hungarian forints in funding under the Gigabit Hungary initiative, expanding its gigabit-capable fixed broadband footprint to approximately 3.9 million access points. In addition, the company increased its outdoor population 5G coverage to approximately 88 percent through continuous deployment of its 3.5 GHz spectrum layer, and finalized the commercial integration of its enterprise IT and corporate communications portfolio under the unified Telekom master brand following the transition from the legacy T-Systems commercial brand in Hungary.
