Business
B.F. S.p.A. is an Italy-based holding company operating across the entire agro-industrial supply chain, from seed genetics and crop cultivation to food processing, distribution, and advanced agricultural technology services. Founded in 1871 and headquartered in Jolanda di Savoia, Italy, the company is the largest agricultural enterprise in Italy by cultivated land area, managing extensive agricultural estates across Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Sardinia, and other Italian regions. The company operates across integrated business segments encompassing agricultural production, seed breeding, food processing, precision farming, and renewable energy. Its primary agricultural and consumer products include cereals such as durum wheat, soft wheat, barley, and corn; rice varieties including Carnaroli, Arborio, and Vialone Nano; legumes such as lentils, chickpeas, and beans; oilseeds including sunflower and soybean; medicinal plants and herbal infusions; extra virgin olive oil; beef cattle and livestock products; and finished consumer foods marketed primarily under the proprietary brand Le Stagioni d'Italia, including pasta, packaged rice, flours, pulses, tomato preserves, honey, and herbal teas. Through its subsidiary Societa Italiana Sementi S.p.A. (SIS), the company researches, develops, reproduces, and commercializes certified agricultural seeds for cereal grains, legumes, and forage crops. Through IBF Servizi S.p.A., B.F. provides precision agriculture, satellite monitoring, agrometeorological forecasting, smart irrigation management, and digital agronomic advisory services to farmers and agricultural consortia. Additionally, the group operates photovoltaic systems and biogas/biomass installations generating renewable electricity from agricultural byproducts. In recent strategic developments, B.F. S.p.A. has significantly expanded its international footprint and industrial partnerships under its long-term industrial plan. The company established BF International Best Fields Best Food S.p.A. to deploy large-scale integrated agro-industrial projects across North Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia, highlighted by a major multi-thousand-hectare concession agreement with the Algerian Ministry of Agriculture to develop high-yield cereal, pulse, and pasta production facilities in the Timimoun region, alongside strategic agribusiness initiatives in Egypt and Kazakhstan. Domestically, B.F. S.p.A. reinforced its market position through strategic participation and capital consolidation in Consorzi Agrari d'Italia (CAI), strengthened its joint venture partnership with Eni S.p.A. for the sustainable cultivation of non-food agri-feedstocks dedicated to bio-refining, and completed capital increase operations to finance advanced biotechnology research, logistics infrastructure, and sustainable farming innovations.
