Business
Ocado Group plc is a UK-based global technology company that develops and licenses end-to-end e-commerce, fulfillment, and logistics solutions for online grocery retailers and beyond. Founded in 2000 and headquartered in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, the company operates through three main segments: Technology Solutions, which delivers the Ocado Smart Platform (OSP), a proprietary e-commerce platform featuring customer fulfillment centers (CFCs) with robotic automation, AI-driven software, and last-mile delivery systems; Ocado Logistics, which provides third-party fulfillment and delivery services in the UK for partners including Ocado Retail and Morrisons; and Ocado Retail, a 50:50 joint venture with Marks & Spencer that serves over 80% of UK households with groceries, fresh produce, and general merchandise via automated CFCs. Technology Solutions also encompasses Ocado Intelligent Automation (OIA), offering warehouse automation, robotic storage and retrieval systems, and chuck autonomous mobile robots for non-grocery sectors such as distribution and logistics; OSP powers international partnerships with retailers like Kroger (US), Coles (Australia), Alcampo (Spain), Auchan (Poland), and others across North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The company maintains a workforce of approximately 20,000 and continues to innovate with proprietary technologies including the 600 Series Bot, On-Grid Robotic Pick, and Automated Frameload systems. In recent developments, Ocado Group launched its first CFC in Poland with Auchan Polska in November 2025, brought its Spanish CFC online with Alcampo and Australian CFC with Coles in 2024, expanded its partnership with Kroger in July 2024 to deploy new automated technologies across multiple US sites including upcoming facilities in Charlotte and Phoenix by 2026, signed its 13th international partnership with Panda Retail in Saudi Arabia in 2024, acquired US robotics firms Kindred and Haddington for $287 million in 2024 to accelerate grocery e-commerce technologies, and introduced Ocado Intelligent Automation in 2023 with initial partner McKesson in Canada.
