Business
Mediobanca Banca di Credito Finanziario S.p.A. operates as a specialized financial group focused on wealth management, corporate and investment banking, consumer finance, and insurance principal investing. Founded in 1946 and headquartered in Milan, Italy, the company provides a range of banking products and services primarily in Italy and other European countries, including France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Monaco. Its core offerings include wealth management services through Mediobanca Premier, Mediobanca Private Banking, and asset management via Mediobanca SGR, encompassing savings, investment products, mortgages, fund management, and specialized solutions such as private markets and club deals for entrepreneurial families; corporate and investment banking services, comprising advisory, capital markets, lending, leasing, proprietary trading, factoring, and credit management for companies of various sizes; consumer finance through subsidiary Compass Banca, featuring personal loans, credit cards, salary-backed finance, and digital distribution channels; and insurance principal investing, primarily a 13% stake in Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A. The group serves premier, private, and ultra-high-net-worth clients, as well as retail customers and corporate entities, with subsidiaries including CheBanca! (rebranded as Mediobanca Premier in 2024), Banca Esperia, Cairn Capital (now Polus Capital), and Compass Banca. In September 2025, Mediobanca became part of the Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena S.p.A. group following the completion of a public acquisition and exchange offer by MPS, which acquired approximately 86.3% of its share capital for over €16.5 billion in cash and shares. Recent strategic developments include the October 2023 acquisition of Arma Partners LLP to bolster advisory in the digital economy sector and Compass's acquisition of HeidiPay Switzerland AG to expand consumer finance in Switzerland; the 2024 launch and rebranding of Mediobanca Premier targeting higher-bracket clients; and the opening of a Frankfurt branch in 2024 to strengthen mid-cap focus in Germany. These moves align with the 2023-26 Strategic Plan emphasizing targeted acquisitions in capital-light, high-fee activities, international expansion, and synergies between wealth management and corporate banking under the "One Brand-One Culture" initiative.
