Business
Petron Malaysia Refining & Marketing Bhd (PETRONM:KL) manufactures and markets petroleum products in Peninsular Malaysia through its integrated refining, distribution, and retailing operations. The company operates the Port Dickson Refinery with a capacity of 88,000 barrels per day, producing gasoline including Petron Blaze 100 Euro 4M, Blaze 97 Euro 4M, and Blaze 95 Euro 4M; diesel such as Commercial Diesel (B7) and Diesel Max; liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) under the Gasul brand in 12kg and 14kg cylinders; aviation fuel including Jet A-1; jet fuel; naphtha; low sulfur waxy residue; and lubricants encompassing engine oils like Blaze Racing HTP SAE 0W-40 API SN/CF, greases such as Petron Grease HTP, high-temperature protection lubricants, and brake fluids. These products serve retail customers via a nationwide network of service stations offering car care centers and convenience amenities, as well as commercial and industrial sectors including power generation, fisheries, transportation, manufacturing, and agriculture; fuels are distributed from eleven strategically located depots and terminals. Petron Malaysia traces its origins to 1893 as the Standard Vacuum Oil Company and was formally incorporated in 1960, with headquarters in Kuala Lumpur and refining operations in Port Dickson; it functions as a subsidiary of Petron Oil & Gas International Sdn Bhd, ultimately under Philippines-based Petron Corporation, the leading oil company in that country. The company underwent a major transformation in 2012 when Petron Corporation acquired ExxonMobil's downstream businesses in Malaysia, leading to the rebranding of Esso Malaysia Berhad to Petron Malaysia Refining & Marketing Bhd, alongside renaming of subsidiaries Petron Fuel International Sdn Bhd and Petron Oil (M) Sdn Bhd. Recent developments include reaching its 800th service station milestone in early 2025 as part of ongoing network expansion efforts, building on a historical USD2 billion (RM6.36 billion) 10-year investment commitment announced around 2012-2014 to enhance its foothold through station rebranding and upgrades. In 2016, the company launched Blaze 100 Euro 4M, Malaysia's first locally produced RON 100 premium gasoline meeting Euro 4M standards with Tri-Activ technology for superior power, engine protection, and mileage; in 2018, it pioneered LPG cooking gas sales at service stations via a cash-and-carry pilot at five locations. Petron Malaysia supports current government initiatives such as the BUDI MADANI RON95 targeted subsidy program, ensuring compliance and customer assistance amid subsidy reforms. Today, it ranks as the third-largest downstream player in Malaysia, employing 716 people and focusing on innovation, customer service, and reliable supply to residential, retail, and industrial markets.
