Business
First Phosphate Corp. is a mineral exploration, chemical processing, and clean technology company dedicated to extracting and refining battery-grade phosphate materials for the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery industry. Founded in 2022 and headquartered in Saguenay, Quebec, Canada, the company operates primarily in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean mining district of Quebec, where it holds extensive igneous anorthosite-hosted phosphate properties. The company focuses on developing a vertically integrated, fully traceable, and low-carbon North American supply chain serving electric vehicle (EV), energy storage system (ESS), and industrial battery manufacturers. First Phosphate Corp. organizes its operations across upstream mineral extraction and downstream advanced battery chemical processing. The company's core products and services include: the exploration, delineation, and extraction of high-purity igneous apatite phosphate rock; the beneficiation and production of premium phosphate rock concentrate characterized by low trace metal and heavy contaminant profiles; the manufacturing of merchant-grade phosphoric acid (MGA); the refining and supply of battery-grade purified phosphoric acid (PPA); the synthesis and production of precursor cathode active materials (pCAM), including anhydrous iron phosphate (FePO4); the development and formulation of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and lithium manganese iron phosphate (LMFP) cathode active materials (CAM); the secondary extraction and marketing of industrial mineral by-products, including titanium dioxide (ilmenite) and magnetite iron ore; and the provision of specialized hydrometallurgical testing, pilot-plant tolling development, and battery chemistry qualification services for commercial battery cell producers. In recent operational and strategic developments, First Phosphate Corp. has accelerated its vertical integration strategy through commercial alliances, advanced engineering milestones, and resource expansion. The company entered into technology licensing and engineering collaboration agreements with Prayon Technologies SA to implement specialized hydrometallurgical and purified phosphoric acid processing technologies. It established product development partnerships and off-take memorandums of understanding with cathode and battery cell manufacturers, including Integrals Power and American Battery Factory, to qualify its battery-grade PPA and iron phosphate materials. In addition, the company established strategic supply collaborations, including an agreement with NorFalco Sales, a Glencore company, for the long-term supply of sulfuric acid to support downstream chemical conversion facilities at the Port of Saguenay. Operationally, First Phosphate delivered updated mineral resource estimates and preliminary economic assessments on its flagship Lac a l'Orignal and Begin-Lamarche properties, completed pilot-plant production runs yielding specification-grade LFP cathode active materials, and closed strategic equity financings alongside provincial development funding to advance ongoing environmental baseline studies, plant engineering, and project permitting.
