Business
PCBL Limited, established in 1960 and headquartered in India, is a leading manufacturer specializing in carbon black and specialty chemicals. Its core products include high-performance carbon black used primarily in tires, rubber goods, coatings, and plastics; specialty chemicals comprising water treatment chemicals, phosphonates, biocides, and oilfield chemicals; and green power generation. The company operates multiple manufacturing facilities across India, including locations in Durgapur (West Bengal), Palej and Mundra (Gujarat), Kochi (Kerala), and Chennai (Tamil Nadu), alongside R&D centers in India and Belgium. PCBL caters mainly to the tire, rubber, coatings, plastics, water treatment, pharmaceutical, and agrochemical industries, supplying both domestic and international markets. In the last two years, PCBL Limited has undergone significant strategic expansion, notably acquiring Aquapharm Chemicals Pvt Ltd, a specialty chemicals firm based in Pune, in January 2024 for approximately Rs 3,800 crore. This acquisition substantially diversifies PCBL’s portfolio from traditional carbon black toward specialty chemicals with a focus on phosphorous- and amino-acid-based products, enhancing its footprint in phosphonates and water treatment chemicals with manufacturing presence in India, the United States, and Saudi Arabia through subsidiaries. The integration of Aquapharm Chemicals, now fully amalgamated, positions PCBL for synergy benefits and expanded specialty chemical production capacity. Additionally, PCBL has embarked on capacity expansions including a planned increase of 90,000 metric tons at its Tamil Nadu plant and investments in a phase 1 greenfield project in Andhra Pradesh alongside other ongoing plant enhancements. The company sustains a strong commitment to sustainability, as reflected in repeated high ratings such as the EcoVadis Gold Medal for environmental and social sustainability for the fiscal year 2023-24. PCBL also actively pursues innovation through its R&D centers focusing on developing specialized grades of rubber black and advanced chemicals, supporting its leadership in quality and environmental responsibility in the chemical manufacturing sector. Overall, PCBL Limited serves as a diversified industrial and specialty chemical player with a strong Indian manufacturing base and expanding global specialty chemical operations, driven by strategic acquisitions, capacity augmentations, and sustainability initiatives within its traditional carbon black and newly integrated chemical segments.
