Business
NVE Corporation develops and sells spintronic devices that leverage nanotechnology based on electron spin to acquire, store, and transmit information; the company manufactures high-performance sensors and couplers for industrial, medical, scientific, and emerging Industrial Internet of Things applications. Its core products include Giant Magnetoresistive (GMR) and Tunneling Magnetoresistance (TMR) sensors for detecting magnetic fields, position, rotation, and speed in factory automation; standard, custom, and medical sensors that replace electromechanical switches; spintronic isolators and couplers such as 1- to 5-channel data couplers, RS-485, RS-422, PROFIBUS, CAN, and CAN FD transceivers for power conversion and data transmission; DC-to-DC converters for IIoT networks; and Wafer Level Chip Scale Package (WLCSP) sensors offering smaller size, lower power, higher precision, and greater ruggedness than conventional alternatives. NVE licenses spintronic magnetoresistive random access memory (MRAM) intellectual property and undertakes contract research and development services; it sells through distributors including Digi-Key and America II Electronics to customers such as Abbott Laboratories, with operations centered in the United States and international sales. Founded in 1989 and headquartered at 11409 Valley View Road in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, the company employs 42 people in its 21,000-square-foot facility and holds over 50 U.S. patents plus more than 100 worldwide. Recent developments include a $400,000 Minnesota Investment Fund grant in 2024 to acquire equipment for advanced WLCSP magnetic sensors, enhancing domestic manufacturing and technology capabilities as part of a $4.7 million project expected to create up to 15 jobs; ongoing $4 million to $5 million investments over two years in manufacturing expansion, including in-house wafer-level chip-scale packaging to reduce supplier reliance and accelerate product delivery; and sustained contract R&D growth of 28% in Q1 fiscal 2025 despite product revenue softness, alongside plans for additional $1 million to $1.5 million in capital expenditures by late 2025 to support production scaling in smart factories, medical technology, and autonomous systems.
