Business
Vista Energy, S.A.B. de C.V. (BMV: VISTAA, NYSE: VIST) is a Mexico-based independent oil and gas exploration and production company focused on unconventional shale assets in the Vaca Muerta formation of Argentina's Neuquina Basin; it produces and sells crude oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids (NGLs) from key concessions including Bajada del Palo Oeste, Entre Lomas, Jaguel de los Machos, and the recently consolidated La Amarga Chica block; operations span Argentina as the primary production hub and Mexico for corporate functions, targeting high-margin, low-breakeven development with significant midstream capacity for oil transportation and export. Founded in 2017 and headquartered at Paseo de la Reforma 243, Mexico City, the company operates through subsidiaries like Vista Energy Argentina S.A.U., positioning it as one of Argentina's top private producers in Vaca Muerta, with pro forma Q3 2025 production reaching 127 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day (Mboe/d), P1 reserves of 519 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe), and adjusted EBITDA last twelve months of $1,752 million. In a transformational move completed in April 2025, Vista acquired 100% of Petronas E&P Argentina S.A. (PEPASA) for $1.2 billion in cash, deferred payments, and shares, gaining a 50% working interest in the 46,594-acre La Amarga Chica concession operated by YPF S.A., which added approximately 40 Mboe/d production, 140 MMboe P1 reserves, 200 ready-to-drill locations, and substantial oil pipeline/export capacities including 57,000 bbl/d transportation; this acquisition drove an 81% production surge in Q2 2025, prompted $500 million in term loan refinancings in July 2025, and supports updated 2025 guidance of 112-114 Mboe/d full-year output with 125-128 Mboe/d in the second half.
