Business
AVITA Medical, Inc. (NASDAQ: RCEL; ASX: AVH) is a commercial-stage regenerative medicine company focused on therapeutic acute wound care solutions that accelerate skin healing and patient recovery. Founded in 1993 as Clinical Cell Culture in Perth, Western Australia, and restructured as AVITA Medical in 2008 with current headquarters in Valencia, California, the company develops and commercializes autologous cell-based technologies including its lead product, the RECELL System, an FDA-approved device for treating thermal burn wounds, full-thickness skin defects, and repigmentation of stable depigmented vitiligo lesions; PermeaDerm, a biosynthetic wound matrix; and Cohealyx, a branded collagen-based dermal matrix, all marketed primarily in the United States with distribution and operations extending to Japan, the European Union, Australia, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand. The RECELL System utilizes a patient's own skin sample processed at point-of-care to produce Spray-On Skin Cells via single-use RECELL GO cartridges and multi-use processing devices, enabling reduced donor site requirements and improved outcomes for burns, trauma, surgical wounds, and vitiligo in hospitals, burn centers, dermatology clinics, and plastic surgery settings. Recent developments include an exclusive multi-year development and distribution agreement with Regenity Biosciences announced in July 2024 for a novel collagen-based dermal matrix (branded Cohealyx), anticipated to receive FDA 510(k) clearance in late 2024 for U.S. commercialization alongside potential expansion to the EU, Australia, and Japan; an exclusive distribution partnership with Revolution Surgical Pty Ltd in November 2024 to reintroduce RECELL into Australia and New Zealand; FDA approval expansions for RECELL in vitiligo and soft tissue reconstruction boosting 2025 commercial revenues to $18.4 million in Q2 (up 21% year-over-year); and a name change from AVITA Therapeutics, Inc. to AVITA Medical, Inc. to better reflect its wound care focus.
