Business
Xiaomi Corporation is a Chinese multinational electronics company founded in 2010 and headquartered in Beijing, primarily engaged in the design, manufacture, and sale of smartphones, consumer electronics, smart home devices, and electric vehicles. The company’s core products include smartphones under Xiaomi and Redmi brands; smart TVs; laptops; tablets; wearables such as smartwatches and fitness bands; smart home appliances including robot vacuum cleaners and air purifiers; audio products such as TWS earphones; electric vehicles, including the premium SU7 sedan and the upcoming YU7 luxury SUV; and software services including MIUI operating system and HyperOS smart ecosystem. Xiaomi operates globally, with significant markets in China, India, Europe, and Latin America. In recent years, Xiaomi has expanded aggressively into new technology sectors by committing over RMB 200 billion to R&D over five years, focusing on chip design, artificial intelligence, and intelligent operating systems. It launched its first 3nm chip and unveiled a strategic "Human x Car x Home" smart ecosystem at MWC 2024, integrating personal devices, smart homes, and automotive tech. In automotive, Xiaomi commenced EV production in 2024, delivering over 30,000 vehicles and aiming for 100,000 sales by late 2024, while securing a substantial 53-hectare site in Beijing for expanding its high-end EV manufacturing capacity. The company has also introduced numerous 2024 product launches such as the Redmi Pad SE tablet, Redmi Buds 5A wireless earphones with active noise cancellation, and advanced robot vacuum cleaners under its AIoT strategy. Xiaomi raised approximately HK$42.5 billion (~US$5.5 billion) in 2025 through a substantial share sale to fuel its growth initiatives. It sustains leadership as the world’s third-largest smartphone vendor by shipment volume and continues premiumizing its smartphone lineup with Leica co-engineered models. Xiaomi’s diversification into the electric vehicle market and smart living technologies exemplifies its strategic shift from a smartphone-centric business to a comprehensive AIoT and smart mobility ecosystem player. Its business spans consumer electronics, software, internet services, and smart electric vehicles, supported by over 21,700 R&D personnel worldwide and more than 43,000 global patents. The company is led by founder and CEO Lei Jun, who drives its long-term vision of innovation-led growth across multiple technology domains.
